One Precious Life at a Time
Author: Linda Brown, serves at Daybreak Crisis Pregnancy Center
She came in to Daybreak a few months ago with a friend. Her
friend was the only one who knew she was pregnant. She was 17 years
old and still in high school. She was so adorable. She was not only
very afraid, but also completely convinced she was not going to
have this baby. She needed to know how far along she was in her
pregnancy. Knowing that information was essential to her choosing
her next step: Would she be able to get her abortion in South
Carolina or would she be too far along and have to go to a
We discussed the long term and short-term physical, emotional and
spiritual effects of having an abortion. She had done her research;
she knew it already. We discussed the plan that God had for the
life of her child. She understood, but was certain that in this
situation, her plan was better. She was convinced her parents would
kick her out of the house, and then what? How would she finish
school? She had plans to go to college. Her mind was set; her plan
was better. We discussed her other options…parenting or adoption.
She listened, but those were not options she was even remotely
interested in considering.
But God was orchestrating something, and neither of us was aware
of His plan…until it began to unfold. You see, she was missing some
critical information that we would need in order to calculate how
far along she was, and an ultrasound was the only way it could be
determined. A previously scheduled client cancelled at the last
minute, and that meant our ultrasound tech was available.
She asked me to come in with her. So there we are in the
ultrasound room--the tech, me, our client, and her friend….and the
fifteen week old baby who decided that this was the perfect time to
wave to mom. I am not kidding you; that baby was waving! We prayed,
and she threw her arms around my neck thanking us and telling us
there was NO WAY she was giving up her baby! Isn't it amazing to
watch God work?
If you or someone you know someone could benefit from our services
here at Daybreak Crisis Pregnancy Center, we have two locations in
the midlands--one in Columbia and one in Lexington. For women
experiencing an unplanned pregnancy, Daybreak is there to help, not
judge. At Daybreak, a woman realizes she has options. She realizes
she's not alone. She realizes that God has a perfect plan for her
life, and the life of her unborn child.
